A valid passport is required to travel to Mexico. It is a good rule of thumb to allow six months of validity remaining on your passport when visiting other countries.
Taxis are readily available in Cancún. You will need cash to pay the taxi drivers, and they generally accept either Pesos or USD. Private shuttles can be arranged for the group.
There will be Wi-Fi at the Resort. As always with WiFi in a foreign country, it’s possible that it will be more reliable in certain places in the resort/on the property than others.
Be sure and check with your phone carrier regarding signing up for an international phone/data/text plan. If you have Verizon, they offer an international plan that costs $10/day and allows you to use your phone out of the country as if you are in the U.S. without extra roaming charges. You have to sign up for this plan in advance.
As with all drinking water in Mexico, it is important to only use bottled water for drinking and brushing your teeth. The water served at the resort with meals
and used in coffee and tea will be filtered water and is safe to drink.
The official currency in Mexico is the Peso. You should have Pesos on hand for taxis/shopping, etc. I highly suggest exchanging currency at your local bank prior to arrival. There are ATMs in Cancún and currency exchange counters at the Airport, but typically have higher exchange rates.
Download the "Currency" app for updated exchange rates prior to arrival.
Voltage and electrical outlets in Mexico are the same as the United States. You may want to bring an external charging device so that you can ensure your devices are charged when needed if off Resort.
Contact your bank and credit card companies ahead of time to advise them that you will be traveling to Mexico from December 6-9th in order to avoid any issue using your cards while you are there.
Tipping the Resort staff is completely at your discretion. If you eat off-site, a tip of 10% - 15% is customary, though make sure that the tip hasn’t already been added on to your bill.
There will be mosquitos in Mexico.
It is important that you bring mosquito repellent spray or wipes with you.
Dry cleaning and laundry service are offered to guests for a small fee.
